Raising the standard
At APL we rigorously test and push the limits of our window systems, ensuring a consistently high standard for Kiwi homes and buildings. All systems are designed to the New Zealand Building Code and proven to perform in our demanding weather conditions.
Recently installed in APL’s Centre of Innovation, in Hamilton, the new test wall measures 3.6m high x 5.5m wide, so is optimally sized for significant window and door formats and products under development. It is the tougher, smarter big sibling to APL’s original residential booth and sits alongside the company’s existing commercial and residential rigs — all in an IANZ and ISO/IEC 17025 accredited facility.
The main focus of test work will be to ensure that new residential products and formats are compliant with NZS 4211:2008, the building standard for New Zealand windows which outlines appropriate guidelines for strength, stiffness, air infiltration, and water penetration.
Purpose designed to meet our standard
A key feature of the test wall, sourced from a specialist manufacturer in Minnesota, USA, is that it provides improved access to and review of previous test data. APL has also built a self-contained reticulation system for the water used in spray and water penetration testing, ensuring that it is recycled rather than run to waste.
A click of a mouse also triggers a pressure reversal system that changes simulations from positive to negative pressure.
“All of this is part of our commitment to designing products calibrated to New Zealand’s unique climatic conditions,” said Shane Walden, GM Design and Innovation. “With everything under one roof, we can design, test and improve faster. This is part of our ongoing commitment and investment in the future of kiwi manufacturing.”
This testing ensures long-term performance, product longevity, and the confidence that comes with choosing New Zealand’s leader in window and door solutions.
