Supporting Swim4TheOcean

A world first

APL is proud to support Swim4TheOcean, an ambitious mission led by New Zealander Jono Ridler, who is attempting a world-first 1000-mile ocean swim from North Cape to Wellington.

Beginning January 2026, Jono will spend around 90 days swimming the full east coast of the North Island in rotating shifts—an extraordinary endurance effort designed to unite New Zealanders around the need for a healthier ocean. See Jono's progress with the live tracker.

Partnering with Live Ocean, the marine conservation charity founded by Peter Burling and Blair Tuke, Swim4TheOcean aims to raise national awareness of ocean health and encourage progress toward more sustainable marine practices.

APL is honoured to support this important environmental initiative and to stand alongside organisations committed to protecting the ocean for future generations.

Ongoing partnership

APL has partnered with Live Ocean since 2021, in support of their commitment to scaling up action for the ocean.

Currently, we are supporting Dr Caitlyn Blain of the University of Auckland to research in the effect of kelp forests in coast carbon cycles.
