Local hands, lasting impact

A partnership that works

Being proudly New Zealand-made goes beyond where we manufacture, it’s about how we support the communities around us. The partnership between our sister company, APL Manufacturing (APLM), and Achievement House in Cambridge is a reflection of that commitment.

Since 1976, Achievement House has created meaningful work opportunities for the Waikato disabled community, enabling people to contribute, connect, and thrive. Today, as a disability enterprise, they partner with local businesses like ours to deliver high-quality assembly and packaging services.

Together, we’ve developed a collaborative process to assemble APL Door Hardware Install Packs, small but critical kits used by builders across the country. Each pack contains essential components like drive bars and a range of screws, carefully counted, assembled, and sealed into labelled bags ready for installation on site.

At Achievement House, their process is thoughtfully structured as a team “train.” Each person plays a specific role, whether it’s sorting components, assembling parts, or labelling they create a collaborative workflow where every contribution matters. It’s a system built on inclusion, teamwork, and shared success.

To date, over 20,000 install packs have been assembled through this partnership. Not only does this support meaningful local employment, it also delivers real efficiency gains for APLM. With each pack taking around 45 seconds to produce, this initiative has returned approximately 250 hours to our manufacturing team.

It’s a win-win: supporting a valued local organisation while strengthening our own operations. A proud partnership that builds better outcomes for our people, our partners, and our communities.
